Mrs. Fairhurst’s third graders took on an inspirational fundraising project to support local wildlife by raising money for the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center in Boyce, Virginia. Through school bake sales and at-home chores and jobs, students contributed to their classroom “Change for Change” jar with enthusiasm and dedication.
With a goal of $200 in mind, the class far exceeded expectations, raising over $320 when all was said and done.

On Monday, students visited the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center and saw firsthand how their efforts support wildlife conservation across Virginia. They learned about the center’s mission, the types of animals it cares for, and the reasons some animals require rehabilitation.
Students were also introduced to the center’s “ambassador animals,” who are non-releasable due to injuries or human imprinting. These animals now help educate the public about Virginia’s native wildlife and how to protect it.
During their visit, students met Goose the peregrine falcon, Mocha the skunk, and Jasper the red fox. After their educational tour, the group enjoyed a picnic lunch and some well-earned recess time before returning to WCDS.
Thank you, Third Grade!
