Annual Silver Bucket Game 12/26/17
WCDS Alumni and current basketball players gathered on December 26th for the annual Jon Lee Memorial Silver Bucket Basketball game honoring the legacy of Wakefield Country Day School’s first basketball coach, Jon Lee. The game was officiated by former Owls coach Tom Shafran and current Owls assistant coach Colonel Mark Dick. We thank them along with the following people for their work in carrying on this fun tradition: Tyler Johnson for keeping the scoreboard, Alumnus Tatumn Vaught for recording stats, Alumnus Laura Carter for organizing the event, Coach Costello for game operations, and Head of School Jessica Lindstrom for pitching in where needed.
Players were divided by graduation year with the “older” alumni, mostly before 2012, on Team Orange and newer alumni and current varsity players on Team Yellow. Team Yellow took a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Team Orange came roaring back to tie it at 25-25 by halftime. Team Orange took a slight 37-35 lead at the end of three quarters and held on to win 41-39 in the very competitive game. Gage Landis led Team Orange with 15 points, and Brian Shafran also scored in double figures with 10 points. Daniel Chadduck lead Team Yellow in scoring with 14 points, and current player Chris O’Heir scored in double figures with 10 points.
Congratulations to the Alumni team for their victory and to Mrs. Kelsey for winning the grand prize drawing, a customized brick for the Owl Walk. Go OWLS!
