Varsity Boys Soccer
The Owls hosted Tandem Friends School for a DAC game on 9/25/17. The boys played well and moved into first place in the division with a 6-1 win. Chris O’Heir had a career day scoring two first half goals and earning an assist as the boys took a 4-1 lead into half time. Pierce Mingione and Masa Nakauchi scored the other two goals. O’Heir completed his hat trick with his third goal in the second half and followed it with his fourth goal. He even scored a 5th goal that was disallowed by the officials. The Owls shut down the Badgers in the second half to roll to a 6-1 victory.
The Owls traveled to Marine Corps Base Quantico to play Quantico Middle/High School in a non-conference game on 9/28/17. The Warriors scored the first goal of the game, but Connor Glennon netted a goal to tie the score at 1-1 in the first half. Both defenses remained firm, and the Warriors scored the game winning goal in the last minute of the game to take a 2-1 victory. The loss dropped our record is 3 -2 overall and 2-0 in the DAC.
Varsity Cross Country
The Owls traveled to Fredericksburg Academy for an invitational race on 9/26/17. There were 82 runners in the boys race. It was a good day for the Owls with three runners placing in the top 28. Brendan Cwalina was the top finisher for the boys coning in in the top 10 at 9th place in 20:14. Kevin He finished 20th in 22:12. Tyler Johnson came in 27th place in 22:35. Bernie Cieplak 33rd at 23:12. Freshmen Peter McMahon scored in 35th place in 23:42. Jefferson Day clocked a 25:55 for a 53rd place. Hank Lin finished 69th with a time of 27:02, and Rian Dougherty finished 61st in 29:02. The places listed are team score spots.
Varsity Volleyball
The Lady Owls hosted Randolph-Macon for a conference match on 9/26/17. The girls played well losing a close first set 18-25 and going to the wire in sets two and four, 23-25. The Owls did a nice job winning the third set 25-17. The Yellow Jackets took the match 3-1. No individual stats were available for this match. Our record is 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the DAC on the season.
JV Volleyball
The Lady Owls did not have a match this week. Our record is 0-4 on the season.
Middle School Boys Soccer
The Owls hosted Epiphany Catholic on 9/26/17 for a non-conference game. The Owls had a good win on the home field. John Mullins continued his scoring streak with two goals in the game. Bobby Reid also scored two goals and had an assist on one of Mullins’ goals. Manoa Weber netted a goal, and so did Alex Diehl for a 6-2 victory.
The Owls hosted the Rappahannock County Panthers in a non-conference game on 9/28/17. The Panthers scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game with their strong offensive attack. John Mullins scored a goal off a direct kick with 22:00 left in the half. The Panthers more than doubled the number of shots the Owls took and went on to score four more goals, the last one in the last two minutes of the half for a 6-1 lead. Bobby Reid scored two goals ten minutes apart in the second half. One was a very long shot that the Panther keeper initially stopped but squirted in the goal after the keeper hit the ground from diving for the shot. The Panthers tacked on four second half goals with the final one coming in the last minute of the game. The Panthers secured a 10-3 win. Our record is 1-2 in the VMSC and 4-3overall.
Middle School Cross Country
The Owls ran their third VMSC race at Randolph-Macon Academy on 9/26/17. Ian Heffron led the boys in this race with a 10th place finish in an improved time of 17:42. Finn McPherson crossed in 21:46 for 23rd place followed by Tim Tickal in 24th place in a time of 24:06. Lincoln Day finished close behind in 25th in 24:12. Jack Gerard did not place but clocked a 26:54. The girls were led again by Maeve Ciuba’s 22:51 13th place finish. Carmen O’Neill was 14th in 23:12. Mariel Scoville ran a 24:55 for 15th and Sydney Gerard was 17th place in 26:42.
Middle School Volleyball
The Lady Owls traveled to Chelsea Academy for a VMSC match on 9/25/17. The Owls were missing two starters and it impacted the match. The girls played well but dropped the first set 21-25. The Knights won the second set 25-16 for a 2-0 sweep in the match. No individual stats were available for this match.
The Lady Owls traveled to Randolph-Macon Academy for a VMSC match on 9/27/17. The Owls played well but were again without a starter. The first set was tight, but the Jackets pulled out the win, 27-25. The Owls took the second set by the score of 25-19 to tie the match. The Jackets prevailed in the decisive set, 15-8. No individual stats were available for this match. Our record is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the VMSC.
