Alfredo Martinez (WCDS ’25) Scores 1,000 Career Points

In his first shot of the game on February 17, Wakefield Country Day School student Alfredo Martinez scored a three-pointer to put him over the 1,000-point mark in his high school basketball career. The team went on to trounce the Mountain View Christian Academy Conquerors 73-52.

A senior and multi-sport athlete at WCDS, Martinez started his WCDS career three years ago when he received an academic scholarship. Since joining the Owls, he has been a leading scorer both in his conference and in the state of Virginia DIV.

Last season, he not only shattered a Wakefield Athletics record but also ranked among the state’s top high school scorers. This year, he continues his stellar performance, currently holding the #19 spot in Virginia with an impressive 20.8 points per game.

As the Owls advance to the 2025 VISAA state tournament for the first time in program history, the exceptional contributions of Martinez have undoubtedly played a key role, alongside the hard work, depth, and determination of the entire team.

"It's an honor to see Alfredo grow into the great player he is today,” said coach Nile Patel. “He has a bright future ahead of him and we are all excited to see what he goes on to accomplish."

Martinez intends to enroll at Radford University in the fall on a full scholarship and study business administration.

"I’m grateful for the opportunity to improve my skills these past years, and I’m hoping to continue playing basketball in my college career,” Martinez said. “Achieving 1,000 points has been a goal of mine, and I’m thankful for my team and Coach Patel for their constant support at WCDS.”
