Middle school basketball touts strong start
Wakefield Country Day School has opened its winter athletic season as student-athletes compete at a high level.
The varsity girls’ basketball team held its home opener on Dec. 4 in a challenging matchup against Fresta Valley. Although the team fell short, it showcased resilience and steady growth throughout the game. Maddie Addeo was the team’s leading scorer with four points.
Last Tuesday, the varsity boys hosted Chelsea Academy in its final December contest. The game went into halftime tied at 17, and although the boys came up short, the team showed tremendous effort. DiDomenico continued his record of exceptional play, posting 15 points and 10 rebounds. The varsity boys enter winter break with a 1-3 record.

The Owls closed out the tournament with a strong showing, securing a 51-38 win over Ad Fontes Academy behind a dominant 38-point outing from DiDomenico and six points from Sean Han.
DiDomenico is currently ranked in the top 10 in the state for scoring, averaging 25 points per game, and Sean Han, who is also ranked in the top 10 statewide for rebounds, with 10.5 per game.

Middle school
In regular season play, the middle school girls’ basketball team has completed two conquests, beginning with a win over a strong Fresta Valley squad. The team was led by Addison Fairhurst, who scored nine points, and Rori Kirkwood, who added seven. Their second matchup was a hard-fought battle against Chelsea, where the girls fell just short despite a 10-point performance from Isabelle Bowen and eight points from Fairhurst. They head into winter break with a 1-1 record.
The middle school boys’ basketball team opened its season with an 11-point home victory against Fresta Valley, driven by a combined 30 points from brothers Jordan and Julian Dechabert. In their next outing against Chelsea, the boys came up one point short in a tightly contested game. Jordan Dechabert led the scoring with 13 points, followed by a strong performance from Jett Anderson with nine points. They also enter winter break with a 1-1 record.
