Varsity Boys Soccer
The Owls traveled to Tandem Friends for a DAC game on 10/24/17. The boys controlled the game scoring four first half goals to take a 4-1 lead into halftime. Scoring goals in the first half were in order: Connor Glennon, Chris O’Heir, Connor Glennon, and Alex Smith. Chris O’Heir’s goal was on a header. Ryan Brown and Griffin Landis had assists in the half. One minute into the second half Masa Nakauchi scored a goal assisted by Griffin Landis. Pierce Mingione scored a goal with 23:15 left in the game assisted by Ryan Brown. Chris O’Heir scored his second goal assisted by Masa Nakauchi with three minutes left in the game. Pierce Mingione added his second goal in the last minute of the game. Victory! The Warriors added two second half goals, but the Owls secured an 8-3 victory and the DAC Division II regular season championship.
The Owls traveled to Middleburg Academy the next day for a non-conference game short a few players. The boys struggled to score until Pierce Mingione scored half way through the first half, and the boys led 1-0 at halftime. Pierce Mingione scored a goal off a penalty kick to give the Owls a 2-0 lead with 22:55 left in the game, but the Dragons scored two goals in a seven minute period and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Our record is 9 -2-1 overall and 5-0 in the DAC.
Varsity Cross Country
The Owls raced in an invitational race at Rockland Park hosted by Chelsea Academy on 10/24/17. Results of the race have not been made available at this time.
Varsity Volleyball
The Lady Owls hosted Saint Michael’s in a DAC match on 10/23/17 with a first round home game at stake in the DAC Division II tournament. The girls started out sluggish but took control of the first set on two aces by Bridgette Larsen for a 6-4 lead. Anna Schuster served four straight points, and later Bridgette Larsen served four straight as the girls took the first set 25-14. Lucy Clark contributed two kills and an ace in the set. Mari Tisera started the girls off in a hot fashion in the second set with three aces and five straight points. The girls controlled the set when Mari Tisera rotated to serve again and hit seven straight with two aces with help from her teammates, and Anna Schuster had two kills. Bridgette Larsen and Anika Pruntel also had kills in the service string. A service error by the Warriors on set point gave the Owls a 25-10 win and a 2-0 lead.
The third set was a battle with seven ties early in the set. Mari Tisera rotated to serve with the girls leading 12-10 and held her serve for seven points, four of which were aces. Anna Schuster had two spike kills during the run to give the girls a 20-10 lead and they went on to a 25-13 win and 3-0 sweep of the Warriors. The girls have won four of the last five matches.
The Lady Owls were in action the next night hosting Wakefield School in a rivalry match. The first set was a very tight back an fourth affair, but the girls committed two serving errors on two set points and Wakefield School served two aces back to back when the score was 25-25 to take the first set 27-25. The girls committed 11 hitting errors in addition to the service errors and that would haunt them in the close match. Bridgette Larsen, Emma Cotter and Anna Schuster all had aces in the set, and Lucy Clark, Bridgette Larsen and Gwynn Major all had kills. The girls controlled the second set and went on to win 25-14. Emma Cotter racked up six aces and Lucy Clark, Anna Schuster and Mari Tisera had kills in the set.
The third set was controlled by the Wakefield School early, but Anna Schuster served two aces and the girls fought back and tied it 10-10. The set was tied three more times before Wakefield School benefitted from a kill and two aces to go up 21-17. They eventually won the set 25-23 on a kill and a hitting error by the girls on set point. Down 2-1 the Owls battled in the fourth set and were up early, but Wakefield School served three straight aces to tie the set at 10-10. Wakefield School again finished the set and the match with multiple serving aces to win 25-20 and the team match 3-1. Anna Schuster had two aces, served three aces, and had two kills in the set. Lucy Clark and Rachel Cieplak also had kills in the set. The teams were evenly matched, but Wakefield School out served the girls, and it was the difference in the match. The Owls have won four of the last six matches entering the DAC tournament next week. Our record is 6-9 on the season.
