Wakefield Country Day School enjoyed a highly successful spring athletic season, highlighted by championship performances, state tournament qualifications and continued program growth across multiple sports.
The middle school boys’ flag football team put together an outstanding inaugural campaign, finishing the season with a 6-1 overall record. The Owls dominated the regular season, posting a perfect 5-0 record while outscoring opponents 240-87.
Their high-powered offense continued into the conference tournament, where they opened with a commanding 58-8 semifinal victory to advance to the tournament championship game. Although Wakefield fell just short against Mountain View Christian Academy in the final, the team still finished as the inaugural regular-season champion and tournament runner-up.

The middle school girls’ soccer team also delivered an exceptional season behind a veteran and experienced roster. Wakefield completed the regular season undefeated with a 5-0-2 record, including an unbeaten mark in conference play. Its only conference draw came against Chelsea Academy. Outside of conference competition, the Owls earned an impressive 3-1 victory over Trinity Academy Meadow View and battled to a 3-3 draw against the coed Rappahannock County Middle School soccer team.
In the conference tournament, the girls opened with a dominant 4-0 semifinal win over Fresta Valley before capturing the championship in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 extra-time victory over Chelsea Academy.
At the varsity level, girls’ soccer showed tremendous growth throughout the season despite fielding a young squad. Their improvement earned the program a berth in the VISAA State Tournament for the third time in the past five years, a significant accomplishment for a developing team.
Meanwhile, the varsity golf program continued its rapid development in just its second season. Participation in the program grew significantly, expanding from four golfers in its inaugural season, to 14 athletes this spring. The increased numbers and steady improvement throughout the season highlighted the continued growth and enthusiasm surrounding the program.
Overall, Wakefield athletics captured four trophies during the spring season, capping off another memorable year for the Owls’ athletic department. With strong performances across middle school and varsity sports, the future continues to look bright for WCDS athletics.
