Wakefield Country Day School Athletic Results

VAR Girls Basketball

The WCDS games with the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind on 1/29/19 and Saint Michael’s on 1/30/19 were postponed due to school being closed.   Our record is  0-4 on the season.

VAR Boys Basketball

The WCDS games with the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind on 1/29 and Saint Michael the Archangel on 1/30/19 were postponed due to school being closed. Our record is 3-0 in the DAC and 5-3 overall. 

MS Boys Basketball

The Owls hosted Chelsea Academy for a VMSC game on 1/25/19.   The Knights’ pressure game was too much for the Owls. The Knights led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 26-8 at the half. WCDS played even with the Knights in the third quarter but were behind 33-12 at the end of the quarter. The Knights outscored the Owls, 10-2, in the final quarter to win 42-14.  Connor Lummis and Owen Schuster each scored four points in the game.  Jacob DiDomenico, Jaden Johnson and Sean Regan each scored a basket.  

WCDS hosted Sacred Heart Academy for a VMSC game 1/28/19.   The Saints were tough, but the Owls played even with them in the first quarter for an 8-8 tie.  The Saints went on an 18-0 run in the second quarter to take control of the game for a 26-8 lead at the half.  WCDS outscored the Saints, eight to four, in the third quarter behind two three-point baskets by Jacob DiDomenico but finished the period down by 14.  Each team scored one basket in the final quarter for a Saints’ 32-18 win.  Jacob DiDomenico led all scorers with eight points.  Sean Regan scored six points, and Owen Schuster added four points.

The WCDS game with St. Joseph’s on 1/31/19 was canceled due to St. Joseph’s being closed for the day. Our record is 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the VMSC.

MS Girls Basketball

The Owls hosted Chelsea Academy for a VMSC game on 1/25/19. The bigger, more athletic Knights controlled the inside. The Knights’ point guard kept them on the attack. The Knights held the Owls scoreless in the first quarter and went on to lead 14-3 at the half. The Knights pushed their lead to 24-9 by the end of the third quarter.  WCDS outscored the Knights 7-3 in the final quarter, but the Knights won, 27-16.  It was a great effort by the Owls to get back into the game with Ava Lubkemann scoring 12 of her 13 points in the second half.   Alexi Cross scored the other three points for WCDS.

The Owls hosted Sacred Heart Academy for a VMSC game on 1/28/19.  The Saints used their pressure defense to create turnovers and take a 10-2 lead in the first half.   The Saints pushed their lead to 18-5 after three periods. WCDS played hard and outscored the Saints 8-4 in the final quarter, but the Owls lost the game, 22-13.  Ava Lubkemann led all scorers with 10 points for a double–double as she had more than 10 rebounds. Arielle Shepard scored her first basket of the season, and Alexis Cross made one foul shot.  

The WCDS game against St. Joseph’s on 1/31/19 was canceled due to St. Joseph’s being closed for the day. Our record is 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the VMSC.
