Sports Recap 01/25/2018

Varsity Boys Basketball

The Owls traveled to Chelsea Academy for a DAC game on 1/23/18.  The boys scored 24 first half points and held the Knights to just 14 to lead by 10 at the half.   After an even third quarter the Owls led 35-26 but were outscored 16 to 7 in the fourth quarter, and Chris O’Heir hit a spectacular three point shot right before the buzzer to put the game into overtime.  Unfortunately, O’Heir made the only basket in overtime as the boys misfired on several shots, and the Knights went on to win a close one, 47-44.  Connor Glennon was assigned to the Knights’ ALL-DAC performer and held him to just three points on the night.  Glennon also contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.  Chris O’Heir led the boys with 25 points. Ben Kelsey and Martin O’Heir were the only other players to score in the game.

The Owls hosted Timber Ridge School for a non-conference game on 1/25/18.  The boys gave up a few transition baskets early from turnovers but then settled down and led 14-8 at the end first quarter.  The two teams each scored 10 points in the second quarter, but the Owls drew a number of important fouls on two of the Titans’ top players, and it proved to have a big impact in the second half.  After starting the third quarter off slowly the Owls got eight points from Chris O’Heir, four of those at the foul line and a big three-point basket from Kevin He to lead 37 26 entering the final quarter. O’Heir hit for another seven points and Kevin He hit another three-point basket as the boys secured a 51-36 victory.   Chris O’Heir led all scorers with 28 points, and he had three assists and three steals. Connor Glennon pulled down 10 rebounds and contributed six points. Kevin He had a good night with nine points. Ben Kelsey, Jeremy Kwolek and Porter Gilliam also scored in the game.  The varsity boys had not won since December 7th so it was good to get into the win column.  Our record is 3-6 overall and 0-6 in the DAC on the season.
