VAR Girls Basketball

The Owls hosted Randolph-Macon Academy on 1/16/19.   WCDS played a good game but struggled with the Jackets’ strong post players and strong point guard.   Several early turnovers led to transition points for the Jackets.  The Jackets led 10-3 at the end of the first quarter and 18-5 at the half.  Ava Lubkemann scored six points in the third quarter as WCDS played even with the Jackets with each team scoring 10 points in the quarter. The R-MA coach mixed up his lineup, and WCDS outscored the Jackets 9-7 in the final quarter with Ava Lubkemann again scoring six points for WCDS.  Lubkemann led the team with 12 points. Emma O’Neil had her best game of the season scoring four points. Jill Chiu added five points, and Anna Schuster scored three points. Our record is 0-3 on the season.

VAR Boys Basketball

The Owls traveled to Quantico Middle/High School for a DAC game on 1/11/19.  WCDS struggled to score early but led 10-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors outscored the Owls 13-10 in the second quarter, but WCDS led 21-15 at the half. A tight third quarter had the Owls leading 32-24 heading into the final quarter.  The Warriors’ Quentin Bellosse hit four 3-point shots to pull the Warriors within two points, but the Owls shot 13 for 16 from the foul line in the quarter to seal the 53-42 victory.  John Mullins went 10 for 12 from the foul line in the quarter and scored 14 of his career and season high 30 points in the pivotal quarter.  The Warriors Bellosse scored 29 points.  Hank Lin had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Ben Kelsey added seven points and seven rebounds.  Martin O’Heir had three points and seven rebounds. Kevin He scored one basket.

JV Boys Basketball

The Owls hosted Timber Ridge School in a non-conference game on 1/16/19.   WCDS struggled to score around the basket, and that led to a tough 57-49 loss.   John Mullins poured in 29 points. Ben Kelsey scored 15 second-half points to score a total of 17 in the game, while Hank Lin added an additional three points. Martin O’Heir battled on the glass to pull down 13 rebounds.  Our record is 2-0 in the DAC and 4-2 overall. 

MS Boys Basketball

The Owls game at Front Royal Christian on 1/14/18 was postponed due to weather. Our record is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the VMSC.

MS Girls Basketball

The Owls game at Front Royal Christian School on 1/14/19 was postponed  due to weather. Our record is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the VMSC.
