WCDS Summer Academy 2021!

June 21 - July 30, 2021 

Wakefield Country Day School is offering 5 weeks of summer programs for 3-year-olds through 12th-grade students this summer. Get ready for next school year with our COVID CATCH-UP Camps, summertime enrichment courses, sports camps and more. Fun for all ages!

Camp tuition is due in full at the time of enrollment. If camp is canceled for any reason, your fee will be returned. On-campus space is extremely limited and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please complete the following:

  • Registration form for each student
  • Medical waiver/emergency contact form for each student
  • Provide copies of immunization records and a complete physical for each child not currently enrolled at Wakefield Country Day School.

Animal Classification & Playing with Plants

Week 1: June 21-25
Lower School Camp
Location: On Campus at WCDS
Participants: 1st - 4th grade
Hours: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Description: For campers interested in learning and exploring mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds, and fish through scientific investigations, music, literature, and art! Each day campers will be involved in activities that center around one or two of the animal classes. Campers will listen to various stories about animals, sing songs about animals, play “animal” games, create animal crafts, observe animals around the WCDS campus and investigate animal classes. "Playing with Plants" is for campers who are interested in learning, exploring, and observing the plant worlds through scientific investigations, literature, music, and art! Each day campers will be involved in a variety of planned activities including planting seeds, singing songs about plants, completing plant arts and crafts, reading plant stories, playing plant games, observing various plants around the WCDS campus, and using the scientific method to experiment with plants.

Description: Campers will explore nature and environmental awareness through a series of outdoor activities.

Nature Crafts and Water Fun

Early Education/Lower School Camp
Location: On Campus at WCDS
Participants: Preschool - 2nd grade
Hours: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Cost: $325 per week

Description: Designed specifically for early Ed- 2nd grade, this camp will include outdoor play, a lot of water, and an investigation into the natural world through science experiments. Camp activities include but are not limited to nature crafts, beading, weaving, baking, painting, playing in the sprinkler or a slip and slide, and much more. Students are encouraged to explore the world around them and have the options to put their observations and findings into creative and individual creations!

Explore Asia (AM) + Grammar COVID Catch-up (PM)

Description:
A week of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) projects await using LEGOS! Campers will be challenged to be creative and inventive. LEGO challenges will be presented for students to complete individually and also in pairs. After building all morning long, we will head outside for some fun-in-the-sun on a giant slip-n-slide!

Music and Songwriting

Week 4: July 19 - 23
Middle/Upper School Camp

Participants: 7th-12th grade

Description: We will learn about and create our own music using found objects and recording ambient sounds. Then we will pull it all together on the computer to produce and layer different parts into a harmonious whole. You will walk away with a copy of the song you produced!

Description: Over a career spanning more than four decades, veteran Washington, D.C. investigative reporter Greg Rushford's work has appeared in prominent journalistic outlets including the Washington Post, CBS News, NBC News, the Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest, Foreign Policy, Legal Times, the Milken Institute Review, and his own online journal, the Rushford Report. Mr. Rushford will give an overview of best practices in journalism, the interview process, journalistic integrity, and how to write a captivating headline.
