Wakefield Country Day School Athletic Results

MS Volleyball

WCDS played Wakefield School 10/24/18.   Coach Pankow got all players into the final match of the season.  WCDS took the first set, 25-22.  Lauren Mehl had five aces, and Alexis Cross added two aces.  In the second set, Ava Lubkemann had six aces as the girls won that set, 25-14.  Congratulations to the team and Coach Pankow for a winning season. Our record is 9-3 overall.

 

JV Soccer

The Owls hosted the Front Royal Flames in a JV game on 10/25/18 that combined the Middle School roster and younger Varsity players.  The Flames struck the net first for the only goal of the first half and led 1-0 at halftime.  WCDS scored three second-half goals to win 3-1.  Isak Burak, Griffin Landis and John Mullis all scored goals.  Fifth grader Fielding Christopher manned the keeper position for the win.

 

JV Volleyball

The Owls hosted Massanutten Military Academy for a match on 10/25/18.   WCDS won the good first set, 25-16. Hannah Burak held her serve in the middle of the set for 13 straight points firing four aces.  WCDS got ahead early in the second set, but the Colonels scored seven straight points to take a 10-9 lead.  The set was back and forth, but Hannah Burak, Lexi  Kurtz and Bea Youngquist combined to serve five aces after taking the lead. Youngquist got a kill on set and match point for a 25-17 win and team 2-0 win.  Our final record was 4-1 on the season.  Congratulations to Coach Zylonis and the girls for a winning season.

 

VAR Volleyball

The Owls traveled to Saint Michael’s for their final regular season DAC Match on 10/22/18.  WCDS controlled the three-set sweep.  The Owls dispatched the Warriors 25-11 in the first set and followed that up with a 25-6 effort. The final set included a number of substitutions, and WCDS won, 25-13.  Our final regular season DAC record was 7-3, good for a second place tie in the conference.

 

The Owls traveled to Wakefield School for a non-conference match on 10/24/18.  The difference in the match was the outstanding play of the Wakefield School libero.   WCDS dropped the first set for a 17-25 loss. Anna Schuster and Gwynn Major had two kills each.  WCDS led the second set, 21-13, but Wakefield School won the next 10 points in a row.   It was a tough loss in the set, 22-25. Lucy Clark, Rachel Cieplak, Anna Schuster and Mari Tisera all had kills in the set. The third set was tied eight times but WCDS lost, 17-25.  Our overall regular season record is 9-5 securing our first winning season in two years.

 

VAR Cross Country

The Owls raced at the Chelsea Academy Invitational on 10/22/18, but the official results have not been forward to us to report.

 

VAR Soccer

The Owls traveled to Tandem Friends School for a DAC game on 10/23/18.  The Badgers took an early lead, but the game was tied, 3-3, at the half.  Neither team scored in the second half, so the game ended in a 3-3 tie.   WCDS goals were scored by Griffin Landis, Masa Nakauchi and Porter Gilliam. John Mullins collected two assists, and Porter Gilliam had an assist.  The Owls have won four games in a row. Our record is 4-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the DAC on the season.
