MS Soccer

The young Owls traveled to Sacred Heart Academy for their first VMSC action on 9/20/18.  The Owls scored two goals, but the Saints controlled the game scoring ten goals.  Our record is 0-1 overall and in the VMSC.

 

VAR Volleyball

The Lady Owls hosted Massanutten Military Academy for a non-conference match on 9/19/18.   The Colonels fielded a young team, and the Owls pushed their first set lead to 10-4 on a Rachel Cieplak service ace. Mari Tisera took over the serve with the Owls leading 16-9 and served up three straight aces to take a commanding 19-9 lead. The Owls went on to a 25-13 win.  Mari Tisera led the girls with four aces in the set, and Anna Schuster added two aces.  In the second set the Owls raced out to an early lead as Lucy Clark served four straight aces for a 12-4 score. Clark also served out the set with four straight aces for a 25-12 win.  Gwynn Major, Anna Schuster, and Mari Tisera also served aces.  Coach Zylonis substituted in all three sets to allow younger players to gain match experience.  Rachel Cieplak led the girls with three aces in the final set, and Anna Schuster led with three kills. Lucy Clark, Lexi Kurtz, Gwynn Major, Anna Schuster, and Mari Tisera all contributed aces in the final set with the Owls winning 25-12 and sweeping the match 3-0.

 

The Lady Owls played on back-to-back days when they traveled to Quantico Middle/High School for a DAC match on 9/20/18.  The first set was a battle with the Owls pulling out a 25-23 win.  The second set was also close and the Owls prevailed, 25-22. The Owls controlled the final set to earn a 25- 12 win and a 3-0 team victory in the match.  Our record is 1-1 in the DAC and 2-1 overall.

 

VAR Cross Country

The Owls competed in their first DAC race of the season at Foxcroft School on 9/18/18.   In this race, six Owls met the qualifying time required to compete later in the DAC championship race.  Masa Nakauchi was the WCDS male top finisher scoring 45th in a time of 24:36.  Other scorers included: Michael Marciano 47th (24:47), Jefferson Day 51st (25:29), Shu Yu 57th (26:23), Peter McMahon 60th (26:53), Timothy Tickal 63rd (27:33), and Hank Lin 66th (29:29).  Rounding out the team’s effort, James Gao finished at 29:42 and Ian Heffron at 34:13.

 

VAR Soccer

The Owls hosted Chelsea Academy for their first DAC Division II game on 9/19/18.   The Knights controlled the game, netting seven goals in the first half to lead 7-0.  The Knights added four second half goals, but the Owls got a nice follow-up goal by John Mullins for the team’s first goal of the season.  Our record is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the DAC on the season.
