Wakefield Country Day School has as its dictum, mens sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a sound body), and at the end of every year, WCDS students, young and old, take a break from final exams to challenge themselves physically and to learn teamwork, while having a great time in the process. The students from every grade are divided between the two teams — the Athenians and the Spartans— and they compete in numerous events which include marching, tug-of-war, track and field, relays, soccer and other physically challenging games. At the end of the day, points are then totaled, and the winning captains are crowned with laurels.
